It is said that by doing Parikrama, the sins committed by a person knowingly or unknowingly are destroyed. That is why there is a provision for circumambulation in worship. You must have heard about circumambulation in the worship of many gods and goddesses. But do you know that one should never do a full circumambulation of Shivling? Religious beliefs have mentioned doing half circumambulation of Shivling. Therefore, half circumambulation of Shivling should be done.
Half circumambulation of Shivling has also been mentioned in Shivpuran. According to this, Shivling is considered the combined energy of Shiva and Shakti. The shape of Shivling is crescent. Abhishek is done on Shivling. Water or milk offered on Shivling is very sacred. The path through which this water comes out is called Somasutra or Jaladari. While circumambulating the Shivling, one should not cross this water place or reservoir. Therefore, only half of the circumambulation of the Shivling is done.

It is also important to take care of the direction while circumambulating the Shivling. The circumambulation of the Shivling should never be started from the right side. Always start the circumambulation of the Shivling from the left side and after reaching the reservoir, turn in the opposite direction and complete the circumambulation from the other side.

Circumambulation of the temple, circumambulation of the sacred or revered tree, circumambulation of the pilgrimage place, circumambulation of the deities, and Giriraj Parikrama are special. However, all circumambulations have different rules.
Jaladhari Is Not Crossed
It is believed that Shivling is so powerful that even the water offered on it contains some of the energy of Shiva and Shakti. In such a situation, water has so much energy that if a person crosses it, this energy enters his body through his legs while crossing it. Due to this, a person may have to face physical problems related to semen or menstruation. Therefore, crossing Jaladhari is considered a grave sin in the scriptures.
Understand The Scientific Reasons Too
If we try to understand the scientific reasons, then Shivlings are a storehouse of energy, and traces of radioactive elements are also found in the areas around them. Traces of uranium have also been found in the groundwater of Kashi. If we look at the radioactivity map of India, we will find that radiation is found in the areas around these Shivlings. If you have noticed the size of the atomic reactor center, then you will see similarities in the size of the Shivling and the atomic reactor center. In such a situation, the water offered on the Shivling has so much energy that crossing it can cause great harm to a person. That is why crossing the Jaladhari of Shivling is prohibited.
