When Is The Janmashtami Date?
Janmashtami is celebrated on the Ashtami of Krishna Paksha of Bhadra month. This year Ashtami Tithi will start at 3:39 pm on 26 August and will end at 2:19 pm on 27 August. Therefore, according to the belief of Udaya Tithi, the Krishna Janmashtami fast will be observed on 26 August 2024.
Krishna Janmotsav Will Be Celebrated On The 27th August
The next day of Janmashtami, i.e. on the Navami Tithi, Krishna Janmotsav is celebrated in Gokul and Vrindavan, so this year Lord Krishna’s Janmotsav will be celebrated on 27th August. Lord Krishna’s Janmotsav is also celebrated in the Dwarkadhish temple in Gujarat.

According to Garg Samhita, in the Krishna Paksha of Bhadrapada month, during the Rohini Nakshatra, Ashtami Tithi, Harshan Yoga, and Taurus Lagna, at midnight during the time of Chandrakaal, when darkness was prevailing in the world, Shri Hari appeared from the womb of Devaki ji.

Shri Krishna Janmashtami According to Harivansh Purana, at the time of Lord Shri Krishna’s birth, there was Abhijit Nakshatra, night named Jayanti, and Muhurta named Vijay.
Janmashtami Puja Vidhi and Vrat Rules
- In Janmashtami fast, the worship of Ashtami is done and the fast of Parana is done on Navami.
- One should eat light and satvik food a day before this fast i.e. on Saptami day.
- On the day of the fast, after taking a bath in the morning, bow to all the gods.
- Then sit facing east or north.
- After this, take a pledge of fasting by taking water, fruits, and flowers in your hand.
- Also, sprinkle black sesame seeds in water at noon and prepare the delivery room for Devaki.
- Now spread a beautiful bed in this delivery room and place a Kalash on it.
- Place an idol or a beautiful picture of Lord Krishna and Mother Devaki.
- Worship Devaki, Vasudev, Baldev, Nand, Yashoda, and Lakshmi by taking their names.
- This fast is broken only after midnight. Grains are not used in this fast.
- As a fruit, you can eat mawa barfi and water chestnut flour pudding and fruit.
